Law firms have been investing in a new area of business. It is called “secondment” and consists of the temporary assignment of an associate lawyer to join an in-house legal team. It is a type of outsourcing that has been carried out for years by law firms on a temporary basis. The difference now is that this arrangement has gained scale and the firms have structured sectors focused on these assignments, based on the needs of the companies’ legal departments.
